Sesame, Honey and Beef Skewers

Sesame, Honey and Beef Skewers

When it comes to this canapé, we always allow for 3-4 per person. Yes, your guests are going to hoover them up. But, if there are any other hosts in the chalet with you, they will probably request some, too. You could also cut the beef into thin strips, about 4 or 5cms long and thread them onto the skewer in an 'S' shape.

Sesame, Honey and Beef Skewers

Ingredients Makes 40 Skewers

  • 200g beef fillet/sirloin steak/rump steak
  • 1 tbsp runny honey
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • Pinch dried chilli flakes
  • Sweet chilli dipping sauce (or any oriental dipping sauce) to serve
  • Chopped coriander
  • 40 cocktail skewers

Method

  1. Cut the beef into 0.5 cm cubes, hopefully getting about 80 pieces
  2. Mix all the other ingredients together to make a marinade and mix in the beef cubes, leave for 8 hours or as long as possible
  3. In a hot frying pan, fry one or two pieces to test them and adjust seasoning as necessary
  4. Thread 2 pieces of beef onto each cocktail stick and either fry in a hot pan or grill on a high heat, turning once. They hardly need cooking at all, especially if you want them a bit pink in the middle
  5. Serve warm on a plate with the dip in a small bowl and some chopped coriander scattered on over them
